Yes, I realize that this issue is over two years old. Tomorrow is Moorcock’s birthday, though, and the issue is still available as a free PDF download or to read online. Free is good, Moorcock is good, so a free zine dedicated to Moorcock is gold.
There are two fiction pieces. The first, One Life, Furnished in Early Moorcock by Neil Gaiman, feels autobiographical as it’s about a young boy who grows up idolizing Moorcock and dreaming of being a writer. The other, The Rhondda Rendezvous by Rhys Hughes, is a nice Jerry Cornelius pastiche.
Of the other six articles, five are unadulterated praise and fan-squee about Moorcock and what he means to the authors. The final piece mentions Moorcock in passing (as well as George R.R. Martin, Tolkien, and others), but is more about the problems of worldbuilding in the epic fantasy genre. It’s still a great article, especially if you’re a writer or gamemaster.
If you’re looking for something to read over Moorcock’s birthday weekend, other than a Moorcock novel, check this issue out.
