Homeless Journal: Six Great Homeless Blogs

The Homeless Guy
Although Kevin Barbieux has been off the streets for years, he started his blog in 2002 while he was still homeless. Check the sidebars for some excellent articles about why people are homeless and what homeless people need. Visit the archive for his earliest posts, which he made from a public library.

Survival Guide to Homelessness
Another blog from a man who spent nearly five years homeless, detailing how he survived and offering advice for both the homeless and people who wish to help. The sidebar has links to a number of great resources and information.

The Girl’s Guide to Homelessness
Brianna Karp was a young woman in her 20s when the current recession hit. She was laid off, and became homeless. With the help of the homeless community, she turned things around, became a homeless advocate, and wrote a book about it.

Poverty Insights
A news blog discussing poverty, housing, and homelessness in the United States. It’s sponsored by People Assisting the Homeless (PATH), a support services organization based on Los Angeles, California.

Invisible People
Mark was homeless, and now he’s a filmmaker. On his video blog, he interviews homeless people in Los Angeles and shares their stories. He makes the invisible people visible, and hopes that their stories will lead to broader conversations about homelessness.

The Homeless President
Pete Domanovic was homeless since he was 12 years old, and learned to be a machinist when he was 17. Even knowing a trade, he has struggled his entire life. Now he advocates for the homeless, and even has a “Homeless Bill of Rights” on the site.

About Berin Kinsman

Hello, I’m Berin. I am a freelance writer, putting down words on things as varied as short stories, screenplays, recipes, productivity advice, and tabletop games. Those are all things that I love, and I enjoy working with and promoting fellow bloggers, writers, editors, and publishers who share those interests. My other passion is working with groups that assist the poor and the homeless. This is my way of trying to be the change I’d like to see in the world, as well as paying it forward in honor of everyone who has ever helped me in large or small ways. I currently live in Albuquerque, New Mexico with my wife, the incredibly talented artist, crafter and educator Katie Kinsman, and our small army of cats.
