The Intervention: Dramatis Personae

Monday night was the first session of the Spirit of the Century-inspired, Greek Myth-based superhero soap opera roleplaying game. Allow me to start by introducing the player characters:

Dr. Appoline Jackson (Deb’s character)
Daughter of Apollo, a god. Half-sister of Lance Jackson (same mother, a mortal).
Friends with Lance Jackson
Rivals with Dr. Philip Hecht, whom she doesn’t trust.
Briefly dated Piotr Nikolaievich
Powers: She’s a female Apollo. Cure disease, uses a bow, is supermodel-level attractive.

Theodora Mikonos (Katie’s character)
Daughter of Theia, a titan. Father was mortal, and brother of Dr. Philip Hecht’s mother.
Friends with Thomas Rhys Hastings, who is a regular customer at the bodega/cafe she works at.
Rivals with Dr. Philip Hecht, her cousin.
Works in a bodega/cafe near Wall Street, after spending most of her life in a Buddhist convent.
Powers: Elemental forms. She becomes living earth, air, water, or fire.

Dr. Philip Hecht, aka “Marionet” (Matt’s character)
Son of Proteus, a titan. Mother was a mortal, and sister of Theodora Mikonos’ father.
Slept with Appoline under a different appearance and identity.
Friends with Anya Nikolaievich
Rivals with Theodora Mikonos
Works as a psychologist.
Powers: Shapechanging and mental manipulation. He can become who you want him to be.

Thomas Rhys Hastings, aka “Karma” (John’s character)
Son of Clotho, one of the fates.
Friends with Dr. Appoline Jackson, who tried (unsuccessfully) to save the life of his girlfriend.
Works as a Wall Street accountant, and is wealthy.
Powers: Can alter events, but there is always a price; to fix one thing, something else breaks. Couldn’t stop 911, because the “balancing event” would likely have been worse.

Lance Jackson, aka “Magnawatt” (Dave’s character)
Son of Typhon, a titan. Half-brother of Appoline Jackson (same mother, a mortal).
Friends with Dr. Philip Hecht, his therapist
Rivals with Piotr Nikolaievich because “I don’t like that guy, he’s hotter than me”.
Works as a Wall Street stockbroker, and is filthy rich.
Powers: electromagnetism. Actively pursues a superhero career out of guilt for being so ridiculously rich.

Piotr Nikolaievich, aka “Boris” (Megan’s character)
Also known as Peter Nicholls (US); Jaime Rodriguez (MEX); Enrique Barbarossa (SPN); Angelo Ferrari (ITA); Hans Seagrist (GER); Charles Renoit (FRA); Harry Worthington (UK)
Orphaned, parentage unknown. Known for certain to be the brother of Anya Nikolaievich.
Friends with Anya Nikolaievich, his sister
Rivals with Dr. Philip Hecht, because he doesn’t like how that guy looks at his sister.
Works in the accounting office of Thomas Rhys Hastings. also, a con artist.
Powers: Absorbs energy, turns it into super-strength and invulnerability.

Anya Nikolaievich, aka “Natasha” (Bethany’s character)
Ophaned, parentage unknown. Known for certain to be the sister of Piotr Nikolaievich.
Friends with Piotr Nikolaievich, her brother
Rivals with Dr. Appoline Jackson, because she dislikes doctors.

About Berin Kinsman

Hello, I’m Berin. I am a freelance writer, putting down words on things as varied as short stories, screenplays, recipes, productivity advice, and tabletop games. Those are all things that I love, and I enjoy working with and promoting fellow bloggers, writers, editors, and publishers who share those interests. My other passion is working with groups that assist the poor and the homeless. This is my way of trying to be the change I’d like to see in the world, as well as paying it forward in honor of everyone who has ever helped me in large or small ways. I currently live in Albuquerque, New Mexico with my wife, the incredibly talented artist, crafter and educator Katie Kinsman, and our small army of cats.
