Skullport Tales: Actual Play 3

Note: I’ve gone back and made some correction to the first two reports, correcting some names and other small details.

Continuing from the last episode, the party needs to lay low. Crowbar has gone AWOL from his job as interrogator in the dungeon, Ahmatti and the sisters of Eilistraee have escaped from said dungeon, and if anyone recognized Umrae’aun and Cody they’re going to be wanted for aiding in the jailbreak. The high priestess of Eilistraee allows them to hole up in the temple, but has an idea to get them out of Skullport until the heat blows over.

On the surface world, the sisters of Eilistraee have established an enclave about two miles from the nearest village. Recently a blight has come over the area, killing off nearly all the vegetation including crops and forage for livestock. The 24 sisters there have been creating food and water to help supplement the village’s stores, but that will only hold out for so long. They think that the source of the blight is magical. As the player characters need to skip town for a while, they can investigate.

The high priestess of Eilistraee in Skullport has a magical mirror that transports the party to the surface enclave. They meet the sister in charge there, Sister Ysold, who points them to the village known as Forest Edge. There they are to make contact with someone named Jeerdan the Windwalker. Ahmatti reveals that she has had visions, and Sister Ysold tells of a prophecy of one who is born every 1000 years with great power that seems to link to the vision. A group of Netherese seek to control this One and his/her/its power. The party, according to visions and prophecy, will need to seek the shrine of Shandakle.

The party walks through barren forest and fields until nightfall. Ahmatti takes watch as the other sleep, and they are set upon by wolves. Used to screaming, Crowbar sleeps through part of the fight before he wakes up. Ahmatti, being a tiny halfling, almost gets dragged off and takes serious damage. Umrae’aun gets badly amuled and nearly dies, but potions and healing and Ahmatti’s clerical spells patch her up.

The next morning the party continues on, but sense that someone or something is following them. eventually, Umrae’aun gets smacked in the back of the head by a dead wolf. The wolves they fought last night were friends or property of an ogre, who’s now throwing their carcasses at the party. Crowbar engages, but gets taken out by the ogre’s club. Cody throws an extract based on the Grease spell, and the ogre slips, falls down, and can’t get up. The party sets the ogre on fire and since he’s covered in grease and can’t run away, he burns to death.

Notes
John set out XP at 3,500 as of the last adventure, and we’ll level up at 5,000. we didn’t get XP for this adventure yet. no treasure taken. We’re lucky to be alive. We’re starting to gel as a team, as the characters get to know each other, get familiar with each others’ abilities, and start to work out tactics. At the end of this adventure, when we get back to Skullport, John and I will probably switch out and I’ll run the next adventure.
