One wonders what Isaac Asimov would think of standardized testing, the killing off of art and music programs in public schools, and the amazing ways we’ve not only used computers to place information at our fingertips but to waste time rather than engaging in creative endeavors. Below, you can watch a 1988 interview with Bill Moyers where Asimov expounds upon some things that feel very timely in 2011.
On another note, I’d forgotten how much Isaac Asimov sounded like Alan Arkin. Now I want to see Arkin play Asimov in a biopic.
Sidebar: I wonder how this law will be applied eventually. Is onlt the person who uploads a video to be streamed an infringer? Am I an infringer because I embedded something I found on YouTube, without personally verifying that the person who posted the content had the legal right to do so? Technically, I’m not streaming any content, YouTube is. Does linking to the content count? Are you infringing by watching it? Is it YouTube’s responsibility to vet the legitimacy of content, or will they pass the buck to their users? Because I don’t believe for a moment that the content holders will be the ones bringing suit. Bill Moyers and the Asimov estate may be perfectly happy with this interview being available to the public, but if some RIAA-like group, or the government itself, decides to make a career of pursuing alleged infringers, will that matter? Will WordPress shut things down first, by killing the ability to embed video? I don’t know. If it becomes an issue, all video will come down from this blog just to be safe.
But I digress. Here’s Dr. Asimov…
